5 Tips To Avoid Bloating
You know those days when you are so bloated and you have no idea why? It is frustrating to feel gassy or get a balloon tummy out of the blue, right? So what are some things you can do to get rid of the bloat?
1.Drink Plenty Of Water:
I know adding more fluid to your body sounds strange, but the number one cause of bloating is dehydration. When you don’t drink enough water your body starts retaining water! Your bare minimum water requirement is your body weight in pounds divided by 2. The number you get is the amount of water in ounces that you should be drinking per day. If you are waiting till you feel thirsty its too late!
2.Eat Plenty Of Fiber:
When you eat fiber rich food you have regular bowel movement and this prevents the gas and bloating caused by constipation. Some high fiber foods include Avocados, Berries, Coconuts, Figs, Peas, Okra and Lentils. Just make sure you eat plenty of fruit, vegetables and grains in your meals.
3. Watch The Salt
Too much sodium is not just bad for your heart, but it also leads to water retention and bloating. Use as little salt as possible to flavor your food. Also, read labels of foods you buy in the market to check the amount of sodium in them. The American Heart Association recommends people eat no more than 1500 milligrams of sodium per day. That is about 3/4th teaspoon of salt.
4. Ditch The Alcohol:
Alcohol is a dehydrating agent and causes bloating. It is best to limit your alcohol to 2 x 6 oz. drinks per week. Make sure you are hydrating with plenty of water when you go out drinking.
5. Limit Dairy Products:
A lot of people are lactose intolerant and don’t even know it! Even minor lactose intolerance can cause gas, indigestion and bloating. So next time you feel bloated, see if it happens after eating cheese, ice-cream, milk or any other daily products. If you are lactose intolerant you can always have lactose free dairy products
