Let’s Talk About “Balance”!

People typically fall in one of the two categories below, I say “typically” because you could be someone outside these two categories if you have an illness, an injury, are pregnant or have a condition because of which you have to eat and exercise a certain way or if you are an athlete, a fitness model or someone who needs to have a more restricted diet or fitness program.

But typically you would be either A or B.

Person A
You fall in this category if your answer is “YES” to one or more of the following questions:
1. Are you overweight?
2. Are you underweight?
3. Do you feel tired all the time? Do you feel breathless easily?
4. Do you have difficulty falling asleep and wake up in the middle of the night?
5. Do you feel under confident and uncomfortable in your own skin?
6. Do you feel moody and emotional frequently?

Person B
You fall in this category if your answer is “YES” to most of the following questions:
1. Are you in a healthy weight range?
2. Do you have abundant energy throughout the day?
4. Can you go about your day-to-day activities like walking, climbing stairs, running with your kids, carrying grocery bags etc. with ease?
5. Do you feel good in your own skin and are confident about yourself?
6. Are you emotionally stable?
7. Can you sleep consistently for at least 6 hours at night?

The reason why this is important to identify is that, if you fall in Category A where you need to lose body fat, gain muscular strength, improve your stamina and become healthier, you really don’t have a choice but to change! And you need to commit to this change 100%!!!! Which also means that the word “balance” needs to be tucked away for the time being. You need to commit to cleaning up your diet, exercising regularly, shedding off that excess body fat and getting healthy first! Once you get there and are clear about what it takes to stay healthy and fit, then we can talk about “Balance”!

Now if you fall in the Category B this does not apply to you because your goal is now to take your fitness to the next level and “Balance” starts to play an important role in this. When you know what it takes to get healthy and stay fit you automatically create room for stepping outside the box because you are clear about how you can get back in. Balance is about avoiding extremes and gives you space in your lifestyle to play with food and exercise because you are completely aware of what it takes to come right back on track. Once you practice balance enough it becomes a part of who you are. But if you start your fitness journey trying to “Balance” what is so out of balance to begin with, its going to give you no results and you are going to give up because you are not seeing any change!

More importantly, changing your body requires making a commitment, showing up for yourself and doing it consistently until you see the results you are looking for. It doesn’t have to be boring, but it is not easy and required you to be completely in. I thought it was important to clarify this because a person who is 50+ pounds over weight, has high blood pressure and other issues does not get to “Balance” their life until they first learn how to be healthy.
